Here's a fun thing to do with RE's: Set the RE in the exact place as the uplink; this will let people "suicide" no matter where you leave the RE, because they will only see the uplink. I used to do this a lot last year in the closed beta. Fun times.

1. We are accepting NPC contracts only at the moment. Player driven contracts will come later (hopefully Jan 22nd) 2. They are corporation contracts, not individual contracts, so yes you have to be in a player corp.

Metalevel is the quality of the item. And yes higher is better and typically more expensive as a result. They also have higher skill requirements for higher levels.
